Latvian Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss (Unity) has decided not to accept a resignation submitted by the ministry's representative on the Freeport of Riga board, Dzineta Innusa, reports LETA, referring to newspaper Diena.

Innusa announced her resignation on Wednesday after the Freeport of Riga board failed to oust the port's CEO Leonids Loginovs. "I will not accept Innusa's resignation, as we would lose connection with this board completely. Furthermore, Riga City Council representatives could say then that the board cannot function because of state officials. I will ask Innusa to keep working until we come up with a new system and administration model for the port," Matiss said.

Baiba Bane, State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, intended to step down from the board also, however, Finance Minsiter Andris Vilks (Unity) turned her resignation down. "How will we receive information if there are no finance and transport ministries' representatives on the board? They take part in the board's meetings and have access to documents. We may not be able to influence the board, however, we are at least aware of what is going on there," Matiss said.

As reported, on September 10, the Freeport of Riga board decided not to release the port's controversial CEO Leonids Loginovs, despite the fact that members of the port's board that represent the state demanded that Loginovs be fired.
