Estonian Defence Forces interested in using more electric cars

BC, Tallinn, 02.09.2014.Print version
The Estonian Defence Forces would be prepared immediately to use approximately 50 electric cars for use in everyday management, writes LETA/Äripäev.

Currently, there are seven electric cars in use in the Defence Forces. Raul Järviste, Chief of the Technology Division of the Logistics Department of the Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces said that it is being analysed whether it would be reasonable to replace 50-60 other vehicles with electric cars. “Our precondition is that the distance between charging cycles would be at least 140 kilometres,” he noted.

Järviste explained that electric cars would not be involved in fulfilling wartime tasks in the Defence Forces, but rather in fulfilling peace-time tasks.

“We need to take into account the fact that in the case of electromagnetic attacks, these vehicles would not be usable,” he pointed out.
