Pasazieru vilciens cannot purchase new trains all at once

BC, Riga, 18.08.2014.Print version
In evaluating the wobbly financial situation at the Pasazieru vilciens company, it is clear that new trains cannot be purchased all at once, therefore, starting in 2016, they have to be bought gradually, Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss (Unity) revealed today, cites Nozare.lv.

When asked to describe the procurement process, Matiss said that they would probably be purchased through a tender. He repeatedly indicated that new trains need to be purchased by 2016, as the cost of repairs on the old ones will be too steep. Considering the electrification plans of Latvijas Dzelzcels, the new trains need to fit the new requirements.

As reported, on July 23, Pasazieru vilciens board decided to halt the procurement of new trains for the company, saying that going on with the procurement deal would be damaging to the company's interests and financial situation.

By end-August, the company's board is planning to draw up a strategy for the replacement of the company's rolling stock until 2016.
