A new chief executive officer is now in charge of the airline Air Lituanica. Gytis Gumuliauskas replaces Erikas Zubrus in this position, reports BC Sandra Meškauskaitė, communication manager of Air Lituanica.

“Erikas Zubrus has gathered a good team and achieved excellent results. We are truly grateful for the job he has accomplished. Erikas is not going to withdraw from the activities of the airline altogether – he will be Air Lituanica's consultant on strategic affairs," says Air Lituanica's chairman of the board Kęstutis Binkauskas.

Kęstutis Binkauskas adds that the change of the director does not change the airline’s objectives; besides, the new head has also been working at the airline since its establishment and is well aware of its operations. Gumuliauskas was the director of Ground Operations Department at Air Lituanica and was chief operations officer at the airline from January this year. He has over 8 years of experience in the aviation business. Before Air Lituanica, he was the director of Ground Operations & In-flight Services Department at charter airline Small Planet Airlines.

Air Lituanica first came into operation on 30 June last year. Over the first year the airline handled 100,000 passengers. The airline, which has met and exceeded its expectations for passenger numbers, expands its flight portfolio according to an established plan: aircrafts currently rise from Vilnius Airport 43 times a week. Regular direct flights are operated by two aircrafts from Vilnius to Brussels, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Paris, Tallinn. During the summer season the airline flies to Gothenburg, Malmö and Billund. It will launch flights to Amsterdam from 31 August.

Next year the airline is planning to expand its fleet with new aircrafts and to add new destinations to the existing routes. During the second year in operation Air Lituanica is also planning to carry over 150,000 passengers and be one of the leaders of traditional air carriers operating at Vilnius Airport.

Through the share of its largest shareholder Air Vilnius Group UAB, Air Lituanica currently increases its statutory capital to LTL 21.8 million. The share of Air Vilnius Group UAB will now make up LTL 17.5 million. Air Lituanica Club, joining over 40 natural and legal persons, has already invested LTL 4.3 million in the airline. Baltic Post UAB has invested LTL 86,000.
