Estonian Air continues flights to Kiev

BC, Tallinn, 18.07.2014.Print version
The crash of the Malaysian passenger plane in Eastern Ukraine on Thursday does not affect Estonian national carrier Estonian Air's flights and fares – the airline will not redirect flight corridors and continues all the scheduled flights, including to Kiev, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Estonian Air's Chief Commercial Officer and board member Indrek Randveer said that none of Estonian Air's flights, including the flight to Kiev, passes over the East Ukrainian territory. "It must be considered that Ukraine is one of the largest countries in Europe in respect of area and since our flight corridor to Kiev passes 700-kilometres away from the conflict zone, we act like other airlines in the world," said Randveer. He explained that the airspace above Kiev is open, so air connection with Kiev continues and flights take place in accordance with the flight plan.

Randveer said that for Estonian Air, the safety of customers is most important, which is why the company carefully monitors developments in Ukraine, is in contact with both the Foreign Ministry and the Aviation Administration, monitors information of international aviation organizations and decides on further actions accordingly.

Randver said that the Ukrainian events have economically impacted the company since the outbreak of the conflict, because the number of travellers to the area has decreased.
