BC, Riga, 17.07.2014.Print version
The Road Traffic Safety Directorate in Latvia has announced an open tender for the procurement of 20 stationary speed cameras, according to information posted on the directorate's website, cites LETA.

The procurement consists of two parts: the state is planning to buy 16 stationary speed cameras with a Doppler radar and four speed cameras with a laser scanner. The deadline for submissions is August 19.

The Doppler radar is based on Doppler's effect, using a digital photo camera to record the velocity of an object and save a snapshot. The system is equipped with an integrated flashlight that can be used during the day and night, and is synchronized with the photo camera.

The laser scanner, on the other hand, is based on laser technology, using a digital photo camera to record the velocity of an object and save a snapshot. This system is also equipped with an integrated flashlight that can be used during the day and nighttime hours, and is synchronized with the photo camera.

The tender's regulations stipulate that the candidates must assure that the devices are constantly operational and provide 24/7 service.

The Road Traffic Safety Directorate will monitor the devices and hire a security company to ensure their safety. The Road Traffic Safety Directorate will also insure the devices against vandalism.
