BC, Riga, 08.07.2014.Print version
The head of the Transport Ministry's Land Transport Department Andris Lubans has been appointed the new board chairman of joint-stock Pasazieru vilciens (PV), informs LETA/Nozare.lv.

Two other new PV board members were confirmed today – the financial director of Latvijas Dzelzcels (LDz) Maris Bremze, and LDz employee Mikus Perse.

Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss (Unity) described Lubans as a person who knows how to plan passenger rail traffic. Meanwhile, he said that Bremze has been successful in straightening out LDz's finances, while Perse was responsible for procurements at LDz.

The new board will have to deal with train lease procurement within two weeks, while Matiss was certain that this task will be effortless for the new board of professionals, and that a solution will be found "in order to bring a halt to this procurement "saga"".

Deputy state secretary at the Transport Ministry, Dins Merirands, indicated that the new board "will not "require time to get going," as it consists of experienced individuals who will be assigned to evaluate the calculations vis-a-vis the existing procurement, not terminate the entire process. It will be asked to eradicate the veil of doubt and suspicion, and take full responsibility for its decisions.

As reported, the former PV board submitted its resignation yesterday. Previously, the company's shareholders were planning to discharge the board, as Transport Minister and shareholder Anrijs Matiss was not satisfied with the new train lease procurement funding offer.
