Island Bridge renovation starts in Riga

The major renovation of Riga's Salu (Island) Bridge will get under way on Thursday, July 3, Traffic Department of Riga City Council informed LETA.

The construction job will be carried out in three stages, with traffic channeled to two lanes in every direction. Two middle lanes will be closed during the first stage, after which two lanes leading to Pardaugava will be closed during the second stage, but the remaining two side lanes leading downtown, will be closed during the third stage.

 

Cyclist traffic will be secured as well with convenient descents and dropped curbs. Four pedestrian tunnels will be equipped with lighting and video-surveillance, but the walls will be washed with anti-graffiti paint.

 

The Salu Bridge construction project stipulates the construction of new entrances for service personnel, road crack and joint repair, damp-proof road surfacing, renovation of sidewalks, lighting, foundation piers, etc.

 

The renovation costs are EUR 8.74 million, and the job will be carried out by LNK Industries.
