Matiss met with Grube during an international transport forum in Leipzig, as the Transport Ministry informed the Nozare.lv business portal.

Matiss informed Grube about the Transport Ministry's vision of Latvia's role in the supply network between China and Europe.

The ministry explains that Deutsche Bahn is currently the leader in Europe's logistics sector, based on long-term cooperation with the key Western European and U.S. manufacturers that have production facilities in China. Grube mentioned computer and electric appliance supplies to Europe's largest inland port at Diesburg, as well as German automobile manufacturers' supplies to plants in northeastern China as examples.

Matiss urged Deutsche Bahn's leader to build closer cooperation with Latvia in organizing freight flow via Latvia's transit and logistics corridor, and invited Grube to visit Latvia. He also mentioned that European transport ministers and transport industry leaders would participate in a conference in Riga next year.

As reported, Matiss is on a working visit to Germany until May 23 to participate in the International Transport Forum, which is held annually in Leipzig.
