The Baltic States are still negotiation on the standard gauge railway project Rail Baltica 2 route and its branch-line to Lithuania's capital Vilnius. According to Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius who gave an interview to the radio station Laisvoji Banga an agreement should be reached by early July 2014, reports LETA/ELTA.

"We hope the project will be approved in the nearest future. I think this should happen by 1 July or an agreement should be reached by that time," said the prime minister.

As reported, presenting the Government's yearly report to the Parliament, Butkevicius assured that Lithuania would strive for standard gauge Rail Baltica 2 railway track to go through Vilnius and not Kaunas, as was initially planned.

Butkevicius said earlier that exclusion of Vilnius from Rail Baltica 2 route was a mistake of the previous Government.
