Under the agreement, the City will cover costs of transportation on trains for all residents of Tallinn, registered in the registry of Inhabitants of Tallinn, starting from October 28, 2013.

The right to use the transport for free is entitled to all residents of Tallinn, who possess the common transport card (green card) which is to be shown together with identity documents.

The offer is valid on all trains from Tallinn to Laagri and back, and also Tallinn-Vesse.

When boarding the city train, a passenger is entitled to show his or her green card (the transport card) and inform an employee of the transport enterprise Elron about the destination point. The officer will then validate the drive using the special tickets sale equipment, and the city will compensate train ride in the city zone.

As the Mayor of Tallinn Taavi Aas noted, the agreement is aimed at improving the living standard of Tallinners, improving of the quality of life by means of integrating various transport means.

As reported, the Estonian state-owned Elron, formerly called Elektriraudtee, which operates commuter trains in Tallinn and its vicinity, was used on 1.6 million occasions in the first nine months of 2013, which is by ten% less than at the same time last year.

"When we look at the September result alone, the number of trips grew by 20% and revenues by 31% as compared to September last year," said Elron's board chairman Andrus Ossip.

The ticket revenue of the company was in nine months 1.5 million euros, by two% less than at the same time in 2012.
