Estonian state-owned railway transport company EVR Cargo posted a cargo transport volume of 1.179 million tonnes in September 2013, which was the best result in four months but still 5% lower than in September last year, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

EVR Cargo board caiman Ahto Altjõe said that mainly the transport of fertilisers and oil shale have helped the cargo volumes improve in a stable fashion over the past few months. As to general figures, the results are lower in almost all cargo groups except container cargo, he said.

In September, EVR Cargo transported 6,490 container units (TEU) of container cargo, which was by 58% more than at the same time last year.

In September, mineral liquid fuel transport formed 427,000 tonnes, fertilisers 270,000 tonnes, oil shale 280,000 tonnes, chemical goods 94,000 tonnes and solid bulk goods 67,000 tonnes of the cargo.

EVR Cargo has transported 11.8 million tonnes of cargo in the first nine months of this year, which is by 16% less than at the same time last year.
