Riga to buy 125 trolley-buses for EUR 131.8 mln

Riga municipal public transport company Rigas satiksme has concluded a procurement procedure to buy 125 new trolley-buses, declaring Skoda Electric the winner of the tender; the total amount of the contract to be signed with the Czech company is EUR 131.8 million (approximately LVL 92.63 million), as the company's press secretary Viktors Zakis told LETA.

Rigas satiksme will pay the contract amount to the manufacturer in regular installments over a period of eight years once the trolley-buses are shipped to Riga.

 

Under the contract, Rigas satiksme will be supplied 125 eighteen-meter trolley-buses in five years.

 

At the moment, Rigas satiksme operates nineteen trolley-bus routes, which are used by more than 45 million passengers annually. The company has a total of 267 trolley-buses, of which 95 are eighteen meters long and 172 twelve meters long. 76 trolley-buses were manufactured in 2009, 62 in 2008, 29 in 2007 and 33 in 2005. The other trolley-buses more than ten years old.
