During a meeting in the German city of Leipzig yesterday with Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov, Latvian Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen the competitiveness of the Baltic Sea region and develop East-West transportation infrastructure, reports LETA/Nozare.lv.

Matiss also pointed out that it is important to continue dialogue on mutual coordination in the development of transportation infrastructure, as well increase the capacity and effectiveness of rail and road border control points.

At the same time, the minister praised the constructive cooperation in the transportation sector on various levels.

Also during today's meeting, the two transport ministers discussed the progress in reducing the travel time of the Riga-Moscow passenger train route. The two sides pointed out to the necessity to continue more actively seeking specific solutions on this matter.

As reported, Matiss is attending the International Transport Forum, where he is also scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Kozak.

As the business information portal Nozare.lv was informed by the Transport Ministry, Matiss is also scheduled to attend a conference of European transport ministers.

On the sidelines of the International Transport Forum, Matiss will also meet with Bosnia & Herzegovina's Minister of Communications and Transport Damir Hadzic, during which an agreement on international road transportation carriers will be signed.
