State to allocate LVL 348 mln to maintain highways until 2020

The government decided today that LVL 348.7 million will be allocated to maintain the country's main highways from 2014 to 2020, while financing to maintain regional roads during this period will be LVL 535.8 million, reports LETA/Nozare.lv.

The Transport Ministry explained that, according to the National Development Plan 2014-2020, LVL 181.5 million will be allocated for the reconstruction of main highways – LVL 154 million from cohesion financing, and another LVL 27.5 million from the national budget.

 

LVL 167.2 will be allocated from the state budget between 2014 to 2020 to renovate or reconstruct road surfaces on main highways.

 

LVL 196 million will be allocated for the reconstruction of regional roads between 2014 and 2020 – LVL 166.6 million from the European Regional Development Fund, and another LVL 29.4 from the state budget.

 

Another LVL 239.7 million will be allocated from the state budget between 2014 to 2020 to renovate or reconstruct road surfaces on regional roads.

 

The Transport Ministry explains that since Latvia regained independence 23 years ago, roads throughout Latvia continue to gradually deteriorate.
