Lithuania-based railway company Lithuanian Railways (Lietuvos gelezinkeliai) opened a new representative office in Minsk (Belarus) in May, 2013, reported LETA the company.

The main objectives of the new office are to ensure effective cooperation with business associates, Belarus clientele, strengthen present business connections, and seek new partners abroad.

At the moment, Lithuanian Railways is implementing a number of inter-modal rail projects and setting up several public logistics centers. While implementing these projects it is vital to have representation of the company abroad. Representation offices play an important role while seeking new foreign investors, developing integrated logistics solutions and ensuring steady and continuous freight flows.

The Lithuanian-Belarusian border is crossed by a daily average of 30 pairs of freight trains. The majority of shipments are chemical and mineral fertilizers as well as petroleum and its products. Most of the freight is transported by rail from Belarus towards Klaipeda direction. Last year a total of 13.6 million tons of freight was shipped by rail between Lithuania and Belarus.

Lithuanian Railways have representative offices in Russia and China.
