CPB carrying out search at Riga City Council's Transportation Department

BC, Riga, 16.05.2013.Print version
The Corruption Prevention Bureau (CPB) today is carrying out a search of the Riga City Council's Transportation Department, LETA found out from the department itself.

Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony Center) wrote in his "Twitter" account that the search could be connected with the so-called "blizzard tickets" – free public transportation during heavy snowfall.

"Soon, the CPB will be investigating cars parked illegally. Elections 2013," Usakovs wrote ironically.

CPB spokeswoman Inta Saboha did not deny to LETA that the bureau's officers are carrying out procedural activities at the Transportation Department, but did not give any more details on the situation.

According to LETA archives, this is the second time that the CPB has investigated possible illegal activities carried out at the Transportation Department. In February 2011, the CPB started criminal processes against Transportation Department officials on suspicion of taking bribes so that inspections of certain passenger transportation companies were not carried out.
