Rigas satiksme specialist Nils Kolecis pointed out during today's session of the Riga City Council Security, Corruption Prevention and Public Order Issues Committee that video surveillance will be set up both inside and outside public transportation vehicles and broadcast to passengers to promote self-discipline, writes LETA.
Public transportation drivers will be automatically subjected to alcohol intoxication control. Upon reaching specific alcohol levels in their blood, they will not be able to drive and their vehicles will be blocked, informing traffic controllers.
The system will also feature "SOS buttons", which will be used to report about emergency situations.
The project will be implemented by Rigas satiksme subsidiary Rigas acs and cost more than LVL 4.5 million. The surveillance system will be gradually introduced and set up within three years.
