Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas to establish new airline in Lithuania

A new airline is to enter the Lithuanian aviation market. It will be established by the company Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas – shareholder of the Latvian aviation company airBaltic. The name of the new company will be announced in January 2011.

Transport Minister Eligijus Masiulis and Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas co-owners Kristian Kirchheiner and Bertolt Flick said that at a press conference on Monday. The new generation airline will launch its activities in spring next year, informs LETA/ELTA.

 

"The Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communication supports the company's initiative to launch flights from Lithuania. Its establishment will be beneficial to the whole country. It should help to attract additional investments to Lithuanian economy, guarantee better communications for both national residents and foreign visitors. The Ministry of Transport ensures it will continue to develop the infsratsructure of the country's airports and pave the way for air transport," said Transport Minister Eligijus Masiulis.

 

"In our view, Lithuania is an attractive and potential market, and business environment provides opportunities for rapid development," said Flick.
