July of this year was the first time ever that Airport Riga's monthly passenger volume exceeded 500,000.

The airport has serviced a total of 3,134,405 passengers in the first eight months of the year, which is 17% or 454,872 more passengers when compared to the first eight months of last year, writes LETA.

In August 2010, the aircraft turnover was 7,023 which is by 21.9% more than in the year before when 5,762 aircraft were served. The total eight-month aircraft turnover this year is 45,775 which is by 15.2% more than last year when the aircraft turnover reached 39,736.

1,041 tons of various cargos was handled in August at the airport, and that is by 44.4% more than in August 2009 when 721 tons of cargo was handled at the airport. A total of 7,537 tons of cargo has been handled at Airport Riga over the first eight months of the year and that is by 33.3% more than the 5,655 tons of various cargo handled last year.

According to preliminary information, the airport operated with a profit of LVL 383,000 in 2009.

Riga International Airport provides services to 16 airlines, of which the newest partners are Belavia, Wizzair, TAROM and AeroSvit. Passengers travel from Riga airport to 81 destinations. In 2009, the airport served 4,066,793 passengers, an increase of 10.2% on the previous year.
