National Armed Forces soldier in Latvia detained for transporting illegal cigarettes and alcohol

Print versionWith the cooperation of various Latvian law enforcement institutions, a National Armed Forces (NAF) soldiers in was detained for transporting and storing illegal cigarettes and tobacco, LETA found out from the Defense Ministry.

The soldier was detained on August 24 on the Klaipeda-Liepaja highway in southwestern Latvia. During a search of the man's ''Renault Master'' vehicle, police found large quantities of cigarettes and alcohol without Latvian excise duty stickers.
The soldier was thus detained, together with another civilian, on suspicion of transporting and storing illegal goods.
A criminal process has been started.
