Estonian postal company Eesti Post had said that as of Monday morning it had nearly 600 packages and 20,000 letters waiting in the Tallinn Airport to be sent off from Estonia, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

“Delivery of letters and packages that have been mailed by clients starting Thursday, April 15 and later is disrupted,” the company’s communications manager Inge Suder said.

As an alternative solution, the company sends air mail to neighbouring destination countries, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Latvia, by car. Talks are also under way to organise transit via these destinations.

International air traffic from Tallinn has been at standstill since Friday due to ash clouds from an Icelandic volcano.
