Ryanair will open new base in Kaunas in May

Print versionRyanair announced it would open its base in Kaunas, the first base in Central Europe in May 2010. In Lithuania's second largest city Ryanair will have two planes and will offer customers 18 routes, including 9 new destinations.

Kaunas Airport will operate flights to Barcelona, Dusseldorf, Edinburgh, London, Milan, Oslo, Paris and Tampere, reports LETA, referring to ELTA.
According to Head of the British airlines Ryanair Michael O'Leary, the airlines will invest over 140,000 million dollars in the new Kaunas base, will sustain around 1,000 jobs with over 120 weekly flights.
Ryanair airlines also confirmed that it is negotiating with four other Central European airports to open bases and give consumers a choice and much lower fares than the high fares being charged by airBaltic and other airlines of Central Europe.
According to Minister of Transport Eligijus Masiulis, it is expected that Ryanair will also come to the airports of Vilnius and Palanga.
