Tallink's passenger numbers down 79.7% in October y-o-y

Listed Estonian shipper Tallink Grupp transported a total of 162,311 passengers in October 2020, which is 79.7% less than in the same month in 2019, informs LETA/BNS.

The volume of transported cargo units decreased by 18.7% year-on-year to 27,794 units and the volume of transported passenger vehicles decreased by 46.2% to 46,524 units, Tallink told the stock exchange.


The number of passengers fell the most, 98.9% on year, on the Latvia-Sweden route. The number of passengers carried was down 95.2% on the Estonia-Sweden route, 80.3% on the Finland-Sweden route and 73.6% on the Estonia-Finland route in October.


The volume of cargo units carried declined 9.5% on the Estonia-Finland route and 13.1% on the Estonia-Sweden route. On the Latvia-Sweden route, the year-on-year decrease was 80.1% and on the Finland-Sweden route 35.9%.


The volume of passenger vehicles transported in October declined most, 96.2% on year, on the Latvia-Sweden route, followed by the Estonia-Sweden route with a year-on-year decline of 92.9%, the Estonia-Finland route with a drop of 40.8% and the Finland-Sweden route with a decline of 35.9%.


In addition to regular operations, the cruise ferry Victoria I operated on the Tallinn-Helsinki route. The cruise ferry Baltic Queen operated three return trips on the Tallinn-Helsinki route replacing the shuttle vessel Star. Operations of the cruise ferry Silja Europa were suspended in October.


Daily operations of the Tallinn-Stockholm route have been suspended since March 15 due to travel restrictions. The cruise ferry Isabelle operated on the Paldiski-Kapellskar route in addition to the cargo vessel Regal Star. The cruise ferry Victoria I operated four return trips on the Tallinn-Stockholm route. The cargo vessel Sailor did not operate on the route due to technical maintenance works.  

Operations of the Helsinki-Stockholm route have been suspended since March 19 due to travel restrictions. The cruise ferry Silja Symphony operated four special cruises from Stockholm to Harnosand. Operations of the cruise ferry Silja Serenade were suspended in October.


Daily operations of the Riga-Stockholm route have been suspended since March 16 due to travel restrictions. October results reflect four return trips operated on the Riga-Stockholm route by the cruise ferry Victoria I.
