Silene and Paternieki crossing points on Latvia-Belarus border being modernized

Valsts Nekustamie Ipasumi (VNI), the manager of Latvia's public properties, continues the upgrades started last year at the Silene and Paternieki crossing points on the Latvia-Belarus border, VNI board chairman Renars Griskevics informed LETA, adding that the sites have been turned over to contractors for starting construction works.

The upgrades at the two border crossing points provides for reconstruction of basic infrastructure - control pavilions and the administrative building, construction of additional transport lanes and other traffic improvements. The two border crossings will remain operational while the construction works are carried out until the end of 2020. 


In the coming months, new bus passenger control terminals will be built at each border crossing. Also, additional transport lanes and pedestrian paths will be constructed and the surfacing of the motor road replaced. 


This year, VNI plans to invest close to EUR 4.74 million in the development of the Latvia-Belarus border crossing points. 


At the Paternieki border crossing point in Piedruja county, Kraslava region, the construction works will be carried out by the general partnership MMG. The price of the contract is EUR 2.65, excluding value added tax (VAT).


At the Silene border crossing point in Skrudaliena, Daugavpils region, the construction works will be performed by BA partnership united Binders and Arcers construction firms. The price of the contract is EUR 2.087, excluding VAT. 


The projects are financed with state budget subsidies.
