In the field of passenger transport, the situation is still very far from what it was before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Minister of Transport Talis Linkaits (New Conservative Party) told LETA in an interview.

"There is still a great deal of uncertainty in Europe and around the world. Epidemiological indicators are changing both upwards and downwards, and so are national decisions to increase or decrease traffic restrictions. The key word at the moment is uncertainty," he said.

He noted that passenger traffic between the European Union (EU) member states has resumed. Traffic to certain non-EU countries, on which joint EU decisions have been taken, have also resumed. At the same time, Linkaits expressed that the situation is changing, for example, on July 20, the last flight between Dubrovnik and Riga took place, because the epidemiological situation in Croatia has changed.

"In general, in the field of passenger transport, we are still very far from the situation before the pandemic. With our neighbors Russia and Belarus, passenger transport has not resumed at all, so there is no international passenger rail transport, except for one route to Valga in Estonia," the minister said.

On the other hand, according to Linkaits, there are currently no problems with restrictions on freight transport, but the problem is that in many countries logistics is still "lacking" or the demand for certain types of products has changed, resulting in lower freight volumes than before.
