Ventspils port terminals see 41.1% drop in cargo turnover in H1
Of the cargo handled by the port's terminals in the six months, liquid cargo accounted for 4.492 tons, down 10.8 percent from the respective period in previous year. Bulk cargo shrank 5.1 times to 1.019 million tons and general cargo rose 1.5 percent to 1.289 million tons.
In June 2020, cargo handling in Ventspils fell 41.4 percent to 890,000 tons. Liquid cargo accounted for 588,000 tons of this amount, down 1.7 percent on year, bulk cargo reduced 7.5 times to 95,000 tons, and general cargo declined 1.4 percent on year to 207,000 tons.
During the first six months of 2020, the port handled 675 ships, down 15.9 percent from the same period a year ago. Of the vessels served at the port in the first six months of this year 478 were dry cargo ships and 197 were tankers.
Ventspils is Latvia's second largest port by cargo turnover.
