The Latvian Transport Ministry’s representatives during their visit to China discussed mutual cooperation opportunities in tourism, transport and logistics, said ministry’s representative Ilze Greiskalna, cites LETA.

She said that Transport Minister Uldis Augulis (Greens/Farmers) has made a working visit to China in order to participate in international conference World’s Transport Convention, visit several largest cities and meet with officials and business representatives of the transport and logistics sector.

Augulis met with officials and representatives of China’s Hainan province to discuss tourism development perspectives and agree on transport connections between Latvia and the Hainan province that would make Latvia the first country in the EU with direct connection with the province. Hainan is a popular tourist destination with successfully developed tourism infrastructure, the ministry noted.

Augulis and Transport Ministry’s state secretary Kaspars Ozolins pointed at the interest of the Baltic region tourists in China and presented a proposal for Chinese tourists to the Baltic region.

The minister is on a working visit to China on June 16-22. The minister is accompanied by Ozolins, other ministry’s officials and representatives from Latvijas Dzelzcels railway company, Riga Freeport, Ventspils Freeport, International Airport Riga, and others.
