During an inspection of a truck before boarding on the Riga-Stockholm ferry, customs officials noticed a suspicious amount of excise goods on one of the trucks. The customs and police officials found 96 ten-liters cans with spirit, and 1,590,000 Prince cigarettes, as well as 98,800 Marlboro Gold cigarettes without any excise labels.

The driver of the truck, born in 1969, has been detained. He already had a previous criminal record on crimes with illegal circulation of excise goods.

During searches, the police discovered 1,450 one-liter glass bottles Smirnoff without Latvian excise lables and about 130 liters of other illegal alcoholic beverages in a storehouse in Adazi county.

Some other persons were also detained during searches.

A criminal procedure on illegal storage and transportation of excise goods has been started.
