Compensations for transport and accommodation costs paid to Latvian MPs in the first quarter of 2018 totaled EUR 87,366, informs LETA.

EUR 29,069 were paid in compensations in January, EUR 29,708 in February and EUR 28,588 in March, according to the information on the parliament's website.

The actual compensations paid were smaller than the budgeted amount in each of the first three months of this year because not all MPs claim the compensation and some of those who do receive compensations below the maximum amount.

In March this year, EUR 10,201 were paid in compensations for apartment rent and EUR 18,386 were compensations for transport costs.

The compensations can be claimed by the lawmakers living outside the Latvian capital Riga. The amount of compensations depends on their place of residence - the farther away they live from Riga, the bigger the compensations.

The largest compensations in March were paid to two lawmakers of the opposition Harmony party - Janis Tutins and Vladimirs Nikonovs, who got EUR 807 each. The smallest compensation in the amount of EUR 20 was paid to MP Aleksejs Loskutovs from the Unity faction.
