Simmermann admitted that while initially it was relatively easy for the company to lay off employees, it is no longer simple, At the same time, after the new Labour Contract Act will enter into force, the enterprise will have to employ more people as an 8-hour working day will be applied to all employees. Now Estonian Railways requesting an opportunity to have some positions be allowed to work 12 hours in a row, otherwise the efficiency of work would decrease.

Simmermann commented that transit volumes on the Estonian Railways are no longer falling, but they are not growing, either. Freight transport to and from Belarus and Kazakhstan have disappeared altogether while trade with Russia has grown a little. "Now it is our objective to provide our partners long-term stability," he said.
