Rail freight in Latvia down 4.8% in January-October
International cargo shipments by rail in the first ten months of 2017 year was at 35.135 million tons, down 5.5% from the ten-month period in 2016, while domestic shipments rose 15.3% to 1.441 million tons.
International rail freight in the first ten months of the year included 32.313 million tons of transit cargos, down 1.9% year-on-year. Import cargo carried by rail was at 2.54 million tons (down by 23.4%), while export cargo was at 281,300 tons (3.2 times less compared to January-October 2016).
Shipping of rail cargo via Latvian ports declined 6.1% year-on-year to 29.573 million tons, while deliveries of transit cargo by land grew 87.5% to 2.74 million tons in the first ten months of 2017.
A total of 38.42 million tons of freight were shipped by rail in Latvia in the first ten months of 2016.
