Cargo turnover at Riga Freeport down 7.6% in 10 months

The Riga Freeport in the first ten months of 2017 reloaded 28.103 million tons of cargo, which is by 7.6% less than in the respective period last year, the port reported LETA.

Bulk cargos accounted for 17.467 million tons of the ten-month cargo turnover, up 2.6% against the same period in 2016. Handling of general cargos rose 7.3% to 5.772 million tons, and reloading of liquid cargos fell 31.5% to 4.864 million tons.

 

Coal prevailed among the cargos reloaded in the Freeport of Riga in the first ten months of this year at 35.7% or 10.045 million tons, down 5.3% year-on-year.

 

Oil products made up 17.1% of all cargos handled in the port in the ten-month period, followed by container cargos with 12.8%, timber with 8% and chemical cargos with 7.1%.

 

In October this year, the port reloaded 2.612 million tons of cargo, including 1.492 million tons of bulk cargos, 643,800 tons of general cargos and 476,500 tons of liquid cargos.

 

In the first ten months of 2016, the Freeport of Riga handled 30.411 million tons, and annual cargo turnover last year was 37.07 million tons, down 5.5% from 2015.

 

Riga is the largest Latvian port in terms of both cargo turnover and passengers.
