The media representatives were informed about the activities of the Freeport of Riga with regard to the New Silk Road and creation of a cargo corridor to the Far East.

Ansis Zeltiņš, CEO of the Freeport of Riga: “South Korea is a highly industrial and developed country in the areas of transport, container shipment and navigation, as well as in the areas of production and finance. Large, internationally known South Korean companies in the electronics, automotive and shipbuilding industries are actively involved in and form international trading and global logistics chains. Therefore, South Korea is of interest by the port of Riga as a potential partner in both the areas of cargo transportation and attracting investment.

South Korean entrepreneurs are interested in the creation of logistics centres and different industrial facilities in Europe. Our task was to show the representatives of the largest South Korean media outlets that the port of Riga is attractive for businesses and can become a potential location of such South Korean facilities.

The visit of South Korean media and the interest of journalists in the port of Riga show that the joint activities of the transport sector of Latvia within the framework of the New Silk Road have been rather successful and have attracted the attention of China and other Asian countries, including South Korea.”

The visit of South Korean media to Latvia was organised by the Latvian Institute in cooperation with the Embassy of Latvia to South Korea.
