The Estonian state-owned rail cargo operator EVR Cargo has received the 300 container platforms it has commissioned for renting out in Russia, whereas the open wagons it intends to use for the same purpose are still under construction, informs LETA/BNS.

"Three hundred platform cars have been delivered and will be gradually handed over to the lessee. Two hundred open wagons are being built," EVR Cargo CEO Raul Toomsalu told BNS on Tuesday.

Rental agreements have been signed on roughly 100 of the open wagons and agreements concerning the other half are being negotiated, according to the CEO.

EVR Cargo in June entered into a 17.8 million euro contract to purchase 300 container platforms and 200 open wagons. Altogether 85 railway cars arrived in August and the company is to receive the last ones at the end of September.

EVR Cargo's initial plan was to buy railway cars for up to 35 million euros, which they would then have rented out on the Russian market.

The company's new supervisory board in July temporarily and partly halted the implementation of the purchase and rental plan, but later decided to go forward with the plan.
