During the first eight months of 2017, Riga International Coach Terminal saw the number of passengers drop 5.7% from the same period last year to 1,112,653 people, LETA was told at the terminal.

The number of inbound buses was 104,473 or roughly the same as in the first eight months of 2016.

Earlier, the coach terminal's logistics head, Elita Lukjanovica, was rather cautious in her forecasts about the passenger numbers this year, but she voiced hope that the drop would be reduced in comparison with last year when passenger numbers fell 6%.

She said that the number of inbound buses might continue to grow also this year as international bus traffic has been ensuring the growth in recent years. The number of buses serving domestic routes has remained largely unchanged.

As reported, in 2016, Riga International Coach Terminal served 1,745,769 passengers, down 6% from 2015, and handled 156,469 inbound buses, up 3.1% year-on-year.

Riga International Coach Terminal is indirectly owned by the Riga local authority.
