Lithuania's Limarko Shipping Company (Limarko) has bought a new container ship, Kantata, for 5 million US dollars (EUR 4.2 mln) to expand its 10-strong fleet, informs LETA/BNS.

The Kantata, which was purchased on Sept. 6, has a 17-member Lithuanian crew and is the largest vessel of its kind on Lithuania's register of maritime ships, the company said.

Built in 2006, the vessel has a capacity to transport over 1,100 TEUs, including 220 reefer containers.

The Kantata is the second ship of its kind in Limarko's fleet. Like the earlier-purchased Tokata, it will ship containers in the western Mediterranean region between Spanish, French, Italian and North African ports.
