Parnu Council to cover expenses of airport by up to EUR 400,000 per year

BC, Tallinn, 18.08.2017.Print version
Council of the city of Parnu on August 17th agreed to cover the expenses of Parnu airport in the amount of up to 400,000 euros a year from 2020 onwards, but the council will decide the exact amount when approving the budget of each year, the regional daily Parnu Postimees writes, cites LETA/BNS.

When approving the city's development plan, the council agreed to cover the expenses of the airport after 2020 in the amount of up to 600,000 euros a year. However, the council's Thursday decision said that the support from 2020 to 2022 must not be bigger than 400,000 euros a year. The council will decide on the exact sum when approving the budget of each year.

With the decision the council agreed to the city government's plan to enter into a contract with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and Tallinn Airport concerning the operating expenses of Parnu airport.

The city government is set to enter into a contract according to which the government will allocate 20 million euros for the reconstruction of the airport and subsidize it with approximately 400,000 euros every year. As income and subsidization is not enough to keep the airport functioning, the city of Parnu along with business operators is willing to cover the rest of the expenses.

Parnu mayor Romek Kosenkranius said that business operators are set to pay at least 100,000 euros a year.

The updated airport is scheduled to be finished in November 2019.
