“Latvia plays an essential role in the East-West connection - it serves as
a bridge to Northern Europe. As times change, transport services change as
well, and the importance of container deliveries, which is Latvia’s top
priority, is only increasing. Kazakhstan is Latvia’s biggest and most reliable
partner in the Central Asian region and these days we have been holding talks
on expanding our cooperation,” said Vejonis.
Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Askar Mamin voiced hope that Transit and Logistics Week will be a
good impulse for new cooperation projects.
“Latvia has the potential to develop new logistics centers and thus
increase its involvement in the New Silk Road project, as well as many other
transport corridors both in the East-West direction and the North-South
direction. The task of Kazakhstan’s government, meanwhile, is to remove
barriers to the flow of transit cargo. It is necessary to develop new joint
transport industry projects in addition to the grain terminal in Ventspils Port
and Baltika-Tranzit container train,” said Mamin.
As reported, Astana Expo 2017 opened in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana on June
10, and Latvia is represented in the international fair with its own stand, the
Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported.
The expo's theme is "Future Energy", and it is aimed to
concentrate on the future of energy and on innovative and practical energy
solutions and their impacts.
The pavilion of Latvia is called “Energy in Our Nature”. Latvia
demonstrates advantages of its geographical location and ways to create added
value with Latvian companies and high-level experts in various areas.
