Number of Riga public transport passengers drops by half in ten years

In 2016, Riga public transport carried 143.4 mln passengers which is by 144 mln less than in 2006, according to the public report of the Riga local government for 2016 writes LETA.
The number of passengers on Riga public transport – buses,
trams and trolleybuses – in 2016 dropped by 3.4 mln or 2.3% from 2015. In the
past ten years the biggest number of passengers or 287.4 mln was registered in
2006, and the smallest number of passengers or 133 mln was registered in 2010.
About 44.2% of passengers used 100% discounts for public
transport services in Riga, and 18.6% of passengers used partial discounts.
Rigas Satiksme
municipal transport company serves nine tram routes, 19 trolleybus routes and
55 citybus routes, as well as 21 minibus routes in Riga.
