Latvian Transport Minister Uldis Augulis (Greens/Farmers) during his visit to Duisburg port in Germany underlined the need for approaching the companies operating in the port which might be interested in using the Latvian transit corridor, the Transport Ministry said.

Augulis yesterday met with Erich Staake, CEO of Duisport, and they discussed further cooperation.

The Latvian transport minister suggested that a special round-table should be held to approach the companies in the Duisburg port on the subject of cooperation.

He also spoke about the progress in developing contain train traffic between China and Europe. The first container train from Yiwu, China, arrived in Riga in 2016, and two container trains left Riga for Kashgar in China in May 2017. In addition, new routes from India and China are being developed.
