Second container train sent from Riga to China

Tonight the second container train has started it way from Riga to China, said Latvian Transport Minister Uldis Augulis opening international conference TRANSBALTICA 2017 today.

The minister underscored the active operations of the sector in bilateral and multilateral cooperation formats that promote cooperation in transit and logistics sector among countries, especially when working with partners who are involved in the New Silk Road development.


"Our roads, railway and ports ensure a considerable volume of transport and transit in the country, therefore it is important to develop transport and logistics infrastructure, attract new partners and strengthen our role in the world transport and infrastructure map," the minister said.


He noted that the first container train from China arrived in Riga in November last year. A couple of weeks ago the first container train was sent from Riga to China.


"We have proved that we are ready to develop multimodal proposals and can not only engage in transit corridors in transportation of cargos from Asia, but also successfully engage in arrangement of return cargos to China," the minister said.


He also informed on further plans, including engagement in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone, cooperation with German ports, and others.
