Lithuania's DFDS Seaways posts lower 2016 turnover after handing some routes to Danes

DFDS Seaways, a Lithuanian ferry operator that is part of the Danish shipping group DFDS, posted 75.995 mln euros in consolidated revenue in 2016, down by 20.7%, from 95.874 mln euros, in the year before. The company said the decline was due to handover of some of the routes to Denmark's DFDS, writes LETA/BNS.

The company's consolidated net profit went down by a factor of 2.4 to 1.491 mln euros last year, as compared to 2015, DFDS Seaways said in a report submitted to the Center of Registers.


In May and September, the company should receive two new ro-ro vessels from German shipbuilder Flensburger. The two ships will sail under the Lithuanian flag.


From January of 2016, DFDS Seaways transferred its operations on the routes between the Lithuanian port city of Klaipeda and Kiel (Germany), Klaipeda and Karlshamn (Sweden) and Paldiski (Estonia) and Kapellskar (Sweden). The Lithuanian company still operates routes between Callais (France) and Dover (England), Dunkirk (France) and Dover (England), Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and Dover (England), as well as Copenhagen (Denmark) and Oslo (Norway).


At the end of last year, Denmark's DFDS owned a 97.9% stake in DFDS Seaways.
