BC, Tallinn, 28.03.2017.Print version
On Tuesday a railway committee is to investigate the train that caused a chemical spill in Estonia's East-Viru County on Monday, reports LETA/BNS.

The rescue center was got a call at 4:21 p.m. saying that solvent was leaking from a freight train's tank at East-Viru County's Sonda train station. A danger area with a diameter of one kilometer was set up around the station where people were evacuated and the train traffic was halted. At 5:16 p.m. the tank's tap was shut off and the solvent was covered in foam. No people were harmed.

The train continued toward Tallinn. At 8:32 p.m. the same train was stopped at Tapa train station because solvent had once again spilled from the tank. The valve that was leaking was closed and the leaked solvent covered in foam. The train stopped at the Tapa train station for the night.

A railway committee is to gather on Tuesday to thoroughly check all tanks. The Health Board and the Environmental Inspectorate were notified about the spill.
