Finnish carrier Finnair has cancelled several flights on the Riga-Helsinki route this Friday due to a looming strike at Helsinki Airport, reports LETA.

According to information posted on Finnair’s website, the airline has cancelled two flights from Helsinki scheduled to land in Riga at 1.50 p.m. and 5.25 p.m. on Friday and two flights scheduled for departure from Riga to Helsinki at 2.20 p.m. and 5.55 p.m. on Friday.

Other Finnair flights on the Riga-Helsinki route scheduled for this Friday are expected to take place as scheduled.

Finnish airport operator Finavia reported that ground staff at Helsinki Airport are going on strike this Friday, which is expected to affect many flights.

The industrial action will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Because of the looming strike at Helsinki Airport, Finnair has cancelled more than 90 flights, with other flights likely to be delayed.

The strike has been called as Airport ground services provider demands better labor contract terms for its employees.

A similar strike already took place on March 10, and further actions are being planned also for March 22, 23 and 24.
