Leiger, the first of the brand new ferries delivered to the ferry operating arm of the Estonian state-owned company Port of Tallinn, is expected to reach Estonia this weekend, writes LETA.

On Thursday morning Leiger passed through the Kiel Canal and continued its journey toward Estonia.

Sirle Arro, chief of marketing and communication at Port of Tallinn, told that Leiger is expected to reach Estonia this weekend, but at the same time the Baltic Sea is to experience difficult weather conditions which might slow down the ship.

"Hopefully Leiger will start service by Christmas," Arro said.

According to Arro the company also hopes that the ferry Toll will reach Estonia from Poland in December, before Christmas. In that case Toll would start service at the beginning of January.

Leiger started her journey from the Sefine shipyard in Turkey on Nov. 5.
