The management board of Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways, or LG) on Monday accepted the resignation of Stasys Dailydka as chief executive officer of the state railway company and appointed Andrius Montrimas, director of the company's Railway Infrastructure Directorate, as caretaker CEO, reports LETA/BNS.

Dailydka last Friday stepped down as CEO of LG, a post he had held for slightly more than 10 years, saying that he did not expect to receive political support either from the new transport minister or the government and the parliament.

The media have recently questioned the state railway operator's aid allocation practices and internal transactions under which the company purchased locomotive parts from Russia without any tenders.

In allocating aid, LG gave a special focus to kindergartens and sports schools in the districts of Vilkaviskis and Mazeikiai. Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius has run for parliament in the Vilkaviskis single-member constituency since 1996, while the prime minister's adviser on transport issues, Darius Jarmantavicius, is a member of the Mazeikiai District Council.
