Port of Tallinn's Jan-Sep container turnover drops 6.6 %

Of Baltic ports, container loading volumes in the first nine months of 2016 grew year over year in Klaipeda and Riga and declined in Tallinn and Liepaja, the annual rate of decline for Tallinn being 6.6%, writes LETA/BNS.

The Lithuanian seaport of  Klaipeda continues to top the list of Baltic ports for container loading volumes. During the nine months from January to September, the port handled nearly 323,300 TEU, 10.7% more than in the same period last year, the Klaipeda port authority said.


At Riga port in Latvia, TEU traffic grew by 4.3% to 276,900, while Estonia's Tallinn saw a decline by 6.6% to 148,800 and Latvia's Liepaja reported a drop by 37.4% to 1,352 over the period.


In 2015, Klaipeda handled 392,700 TEU, down by 12.8% from 450,400 TEU handled in the year before.
