EUR 11.5 mln worth of cohesion money earmarked for Riga airport's infrastructure projects

EUR 11.48 mln from the EU's Cohesion Fund will be made available to infrastructure projects intended to improve air traffic safety and energy efficiency at Riga International Airport and lessen its impact on the environment, the Latvian Transport Ministry informed.

The ministry's representatives Aivis Freidenfelds said BC, that the government approved the EU funding for the airport's infrastructure projects in the programming period of 2014-2020 in order to reduce the environmental impact of the airport's operations. The projects also provide for improving civil aviation safety at the airport and increasing the energy efficiency of its infrastructure.


The total cohesion funding made available to these projects is EUR 11.48 mln, while the necessary national co-funding will be provided by Riga airport.


The projects have to be completed by December 31, 2023.
