Latvian ports see cargo turnover drop 15.1% in H1

In the first half of 2016, Latvian ports reloaded 31.7 million tons of cargo, down 15.1 percent from the same period in 2015, the Latvian Transport Ministry said, writes LETA.

Riga led other Latvian ports by cargo turnover in the first half of this year, having handled 18.3 mln tons, which was 11.5%  less than in the same period in 2015. The north-western Latvian port of Ventspils came second with 10 mln  tons reloaded in January-June 2016, down 25.1%  year-on-year, and Liepaja in south-western Latvia was third with 2.7 mln tons, down 0.4% year-on-year.


Bulk cargos prevailed among cargos handled by Latvian ports in the first six months of 2016, accounting for 15.2 mln tons and dropping 11.9% from January-June 2015. Handling of liquid cargos fell 22.9% year-on-year to 13.4mln tons. General cargos fell 4.39%  year-on-year to 5.2 mln tons in January-June this year.
